What is a QR code?

A QR code (short for Quick Response) is a matrix (two dimensional) bar code (or two-dimensional code), readable by special bar code readers or your cell phone with a camera. The code consists of black object arranged within a square pattern on a white background. I have an Android phone and have found a free app that is so easy to use. Recently when i was comparing pricing and attributes of notebook computers at several stores. This was an easy way to gather information and make a more informed decision.

The QR code was created by Toyota subsidiary in 1994 as part of their six sigma inventory management. The QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional bar codes with the intent of the contents to be decoded at high speed. While it is very popular in Japan, it has just begun to become familiar in the US.

How do you create the code?

Anyone with access to the internet and a computer can easily generate their own code. By scanning the code using your smart phone, you can immediately access selected images, YouTube videos, company websites and text to help market your products.

If you are creating code linking to a website, it will generate the square box code along with a tag line with your website URL. Note: if you add a QR code to your website, be sure to add the (Alt tag description) so the search engines will index the code.
