Arnaud Saint-Paul: Hey Peter, good afternoon. Here's Peter Olfe from Near2There. How are you today?

Peter Olfe: Good, good, it's a beautiful, sunny San Francisco day!

Arnaud: It is, it is. It's a beautiful day indeed. So yea, I met you at a meet up a week ago and I wanted to talk about your company to our audience because it seems very interesting. As far as I understood you offer a new layer, a link between the online world and the offline world basically through the net. So how did you create that company? What is your passion? Why did you create that new path?

Peter: So, well thank you for the opportunity. I've been in the mobile space now for 15 years and for the past 5 years or more, 6 years, I've been working on location based services. And one of the things that I kept on thinking, "God if I could only do this!", was something that I had a very personal need for. A perfect example is I remember around that 5 years ago, a friend said "I went to the best French restaurants I've ever been to, in fact one of the best restaurants he'd ever been to in the city". The problem is, anytime it's French since I don't speak the language, it goes in one ear and out the other. Every time I'd go out I would think "ugh! I meant to go to that place!", and I'd forget about it and get home and think "why didn't I go to that place?" Sometimes I would even pass right by it and I wouldn't remember. So there was a great need for that. It ended up that over the years I realized I couldn't do it initially because the first thing is, I needed to make sure it wouldn't use all your battery. The second thing is, you shouldn't have to open your app to realize what you forgot. It should be running in the background, like, ok you're near this place, you wanted to go here. So that's something that wasn't possible to do until about 2 years ago. Right when I realized that we can have the app running in the background and I'd come up with some solutions to conserve on battery, right around that time I met my cofounder Bob and we put the company together.

Arnaud: Ok. So that drove you into. . .that was your first start-up or there were others before?

Peter: No, there were others. The previous one was also on location based services. We did the first mobile Toilet finder called MissPee.

Arnaud: Hahaha, that must have been a blast.

Peter: It was, it was funny. Very easy to get a lot of press coverage for that.

Arnaud: Ya, I imagine. Ok so, to get back to the actual service of this start-up. What is it offering me exactly in more details?
How often do you read about places you may want to go to or try, but when going out, you forget, even when you are nearby? near2there is a
