Save h/w development time, hack your low cost($35) wi-fi router and extend its capabilities for home automation and other stuff.
I have developed an USB extender board(using AVR attiny2313) for I/O operations like I2C,RC5, LCD. Plug this board onto USB port of MR3220 or RT-N16 or any other low cost linux box and run a daemon on openwrt of router to control this USB_extender.
This demonstration uses openwrt+TP link MR3220+USB_Extender+android app developed by me.
