Ricardo

By Cyrill Baur

Amber Graner interviews Linaro Developer Platform Tech Lead Ricardo Salveti at Linaro Connect in Orlando, Florida.

Ricardo starts by explaining what the Linaro Developer Platform team produces: a set of tools to build images to boot the boards with, a set of development and debugging tools, all this in a development environment based on Ubuntu.

He then explains how to get involved and contribute. This is particularly easy as the on-line resources are provided by Ubuntu: mailing lists and IRC channel (#ubuntu-arm on Freenode).

He continues by explaining the benefits provided to Ubuntu by Linaro. Ubuntu on ARM now uses Linaro gcc toolchains, Linaro kernels, libjpeg-turbo - the neon-accelerated version of libjpeg, and bootloaders maintained by Linaro.

Ricardo is also excited about the Mark Shutteworth's plans for Ubuntu based phones, televisions and tablets. This will bring many challenges for the months and years to come.
