Step 1: Pick Your Octave
You'll be able to play C Sharp in two octaves on your bass guitar. What octave you choose will depend on what song you're trying to play and possibly by what other notes surround the C Sharp in the surrounding bars. However, whether you're using sheet music or are just playing by ear, it's helpful to try out the different octaves so you're familiar with the notes both higher up and farther down the neck of your bass.
Step 2: Select the String You'd like to Use
You can play C sharp on any of the four bass strings. However, because each string is tuned different, the fret that plays C sharp will also change. For example, the 10th fret on your lowest pitch string will play C sharp. To get the cleanest purest sound, it may be best to play the C sharp that is closest to the bridge whenever possible.
Step 3: Play Your C Sharp
Once you've selected the octave you'd like to play as well as the string you'd like to use, simply find your fret and play your note. You'll be able to vary the sound of your note by strumming different ways. You can strum quickly and lightly for a smooth, constant sound or pluck the string with your thumb and index finger for an edgier sound.
