Launchpad

Texas Instruments COOP Design Challenge 2011:

LightPad, turn the party lights on, with the msp430 LightPad and your Android phone. The LightPad is a plugin daugther card for the MSP430 LaunchPad (ti.com/launchpad). It contains only 1 high power RGB LED that emits the light effects displayed in the video. The phone connects instantly to the lightpad through Near Field Communication (NFC), and handles all the transmission through a bluetooth connection.

With the LightPad app you can control the light intensity and add strobe effects wirelessly. This design demonstrates the effective use of NFC for pairing two devices seamlessly, as well as the implementation of Bluetooth insecure connection with the Android API. The phone utilized in this project was the Google Nexus S.
