This time we take a step away from reviewing Bjj gear like Gis and rashguards and we take a look at an Ipad app. Jiu Jitsu Style Magazine is becoming really popular in both the USA and the UK and we can see why. Great content, great photography, and also a great app for both Ipad and android devices.
Overview
Jiu Jitsu Style Magazine is a European based magazine that's starting to grow world wide. With interesting Bjj related articles, techniques, and great photography, Jiu Jitsu Style Magazine is focused on showing the competition how it should be done. When JJS asked me to do a review of their Ipad app I jumped at the chance. Once I downloaded the current issue and began to flip through the digital pages, I could tell right away that they were on to something good. After speaking with the editor it also sounds like they have more features and improvements coming soon.
Content
The issue that I downloaded was a perfect blend of interviews with big names, Bjj history and techniques to help improve my Jiu Jitsu. One thing that really kicked it up a notch for me was the ability to watch embedded videos of techniques with a simple tap of the screen. This was great for covering all learning methods. In some cases they referenced entire matches that were hosted on youtube. So again with a simple tap of the screen it would launch a browser window and start playing the match they were talking about.
Photography
I'm really drawn to the photos they use for their covers. Some of them are simply striking and make me want to frame it and hang it in the Bjj Gear Junkie office. The images used to display the techniques are well done and organized in a way that's easy to follow.
Ease Of Use
As you can see from the video review (click the video button at the top) this app is really easy to use. I was using my girlfriends Ipad that I'm not even that familiar with, and I was able to purchase, download, and read in no time.
