Stats for the 6.0+ magnitude earthquakes come from the EMSC european agency- so far, this year:

173 - 6.0 to 6.9 magnitude -
17 - 7.0 to 7.9 magnitude -

1874 magnitude 5.0 to 5.9


Total large quakes 6.0M or greater = 192 so far (as of Oct. 25 2011).

Here are the official numbers from the USGS on what is considered "normal" number of large earthquakes- Normal is:

Magnitude 5.0-5,9 = 1319 / year
Magnitude 6.0-6.9 = 134 / year
Magnitude 7.0-7.9 = 15 / year
Magnitude 8.0-8.9+ = 1 / year
